Upper back
Set the pulleys to a low position and hold the opposite handles with your torso bent forward until it is about parallel to the floor.
Raise your arms out to the sides until they are level with your shoulders, squeezing the back of your shoulders at the top.
Slowly lower the weights back to the starting position, keeping a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement.
Tips
Hold your torso steady and parallel to the floor throughout the set so the cables pull in the intended direction as you raise your arms.
Keep a slight bend in your elbows and lead the movement with your upper arms, guiding the handles out to the sides rather than pulling them back.
Lower the handles in a controlled arc back to the starting position rather than letting them drop quickly.
Common mistakes
Rising up with the torso as the arms are raised shortens the range of motion and changes the angle at which the cables pull.
Bending the elbows more deeply during the raise turns the movement into a row rather than a lateral raise.
