  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor (you can anchor your feet under a heavy object for stability).
  2. Lift your torso off the floor, curling up until your chest is close to your thighs.
  3. Slowly lower your upper body back down to the floor with control.

Tips

  • As you curl up, lead with your chest moving toward your thighs rather than thrusting your chin forward or straining your neck.
  • Lower your torso back to the floor at a steady, controlled pace rather than dropping it all at once.
  • Exhale as you curl up and inhale as you lower back down to keep your breathing consistent throughout the movement.

Common mistakes

  • Pulling the head forward with the hands during the curl-up, which causes the neck to flex excessively instead of the torso rising as a unit.
  • Using momentum by swinging the arms or jerking the torso off the floor at the start of each rep instead of initiating the movement with a controlled curl.
