  1. Set the cable to chest height and stand in a staggered stance (opposite foot forward), holding the handle at your shoulder.
  2. Press the handle straight forward until your arm is fully extended, keeping your torso square and resisting the pull to rotate.
  3. Slowly return the handle to the starting position next to your chest with control.

Tips

  • Keep your torso facing forward throughout the press by actively resisting the cable's pull to rotate your shoulders toward the machine.
  • Position your staggered stance so the foot opposite to your pressing arm is forward, giving you a stable base to push against.
  • On the return, guide the handle back toward your shoulder at a controlled pace, letting the cable's resistance slow the movement rather than dropping your arm.

Common mistakes

  • Allowing the torso to rotate toward the machine as you press, so the shoulder of the working arm leads the movement instead of the hand pressing straight forward.
  • Starting with the cable set too high or too low so the handle cannot travel in a horizontal path at chest level, changing the direction of the press.
