Attach a handle to the bottom of the cable machine. Stand facing away from the machine and hold the handle with one hand in front of your thigh.
Keep your arm straight and lift the handle forward until it reaches shoulder height.
Slowly lower the weight back to the starting position. Complete your reps, then switch to the other arm.
Tips
Keep your elbow straight but not forcefully locked throughout the lift so the handle travels in a clean arc from your thigh to shoulder height.
Stand far enough from the machine that the cable pulls at a low angle behind you, keeping tension on the working arm throughout the movement.
Lower the handle in a controlled manner on the way down rather than letting it drop quickly back to the start.
Common mistakes
Swinging the torso forward or backward to help lift the handle, rather than keeping the trunk stable and moving only the arm.
Bending the elbow as the handle rises, which shortens the lever and changes the intended straight-arm movement.
