  1. Stand sideways to a low cable pulley and grip the handle with the hand closest to the machine.
  2. Bend your torso laterally away from the machine, pulling the cable while squeezing your obliques.
  3. Slowly return to the starting position, allowing the weight to provide a gentle stretch along your side.

Tips

  • Keep the movement strictly in the lateral plane by bending directly to the side without rotating your torso forward or backward.
  • On the return, let the cable guide your torso back to upright at a controlled pace rather than snapping back quickly.
  • Keep the working arm straight and close to your body so the handle travels in a clean arc along your side.

Common mistakes

  • Bending at the hip or leaning the pelvis away from the machine instead of bending the torso laterally at the waist.
  • Rotating the shoulder toward or away from the machine during the bend, turning a lateral flexion movement into a partial twist.
