  1. Sit on the machine and place the balls of your feet on the platform. Lower the pad firmly onto your thighs.
  2. Lift your heels slightly to release the safety handle, then lower your heels until you feel a deep stretch.
  3. Push through your toes to raise your heels as high as possible.

Tips

  • At the top of each rep, pause briefly with your heels raised as high as your ankle mobility allows before lowering with control.
  • Lower your heels until you feel a clear stretch in your calves, keeping the balls of your feet in firm contact with the platform throughout the movement.
  • Keep your torso upright and your thighs still under the pad so the movement is isolated to your ankles.

Common mistakes

  • Bouncing out of the bottom position instead of reversing direction with control shortens the stretch and makes the movement uncontrolled.
  • Raising the heels only partway up on each rep leaves the range of motion incomplete.
