Attach a single handle to a cable pulley at mid-torso height, grab the handle with one hand, and step back to create tension while establishing a stable stance with your core braced.
Pull the handle back toward your hip, keeping your elbow close to your side and squeezing your lat at full contraction while keeping your torso stable.
Slowly extend your arm back to the starting position under control to feel a full stretch in your lat before starting the next repetition.
Tips
Keep your torso facing forward and avoid rotating toward the cable as you pull, so the lat does the work rather than your body turning to shorten the distance.
At the end of the pull, pause briefly with your elbow drawn back past your hip before returning, so you complete the contraction before the return phase begins.
On the return, let your arm extend fully so your shoulder moves forward slightly and you feel a stretch through the lat before starting the next rep.
Common mistakes
Leaning back with the torso as you pull instead of keeping it stable, so the movement becomes a body swing rather than an arm and back pull.
Letting the elbow flare out to the side during the pull instead of keeping it close to the body, which changes the path of the handle away from the hip.
